Sadanlal Sanwaldas Khanna Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Prayagraj established in 1975 (International year of Women) is a prestigious constituent college of the University of Allahabad and has been accredited at "A" grade by NAAC 3rd cycle of accreditation in 2021. Founded by Late Prof. Damodardas Khanna and philanthropists, it aims to provide quality education to women, especially from marginalized communities. From its humble beginnings with 25 students, it has grown into a multi-faculty institution offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, and Law. From the session 2019-20, the college has also started D.Phil Programme in some subjects of Arts and Science.
SSKGDC emphasizes academic excellence, holistic development, and social responsibility. Therefore, apart from the degree courses the college also runs Diploma in Bio-technology, Diploma in Fashion Designing (UGC Approved), Computer courses such an "O' Level, CCC, Tally. Committed to dissemination of research, the College publishes an annual print journal ANVEEKSHA RESEARCH JOURNAL OF SSKGDC, ISSN 2581-8163 with the aim of promoting academic rigour and knowledge building. The College has also introduced Anusandhan Pravah, peer-reviewed multidisciplinary Online Research Journal which serves as a dynamic online platform dedicated to fostering intellectual discourse and advancing knowledge across various disciplines.
It has also received government grants like DBT Star College (2020) and DST-CURIE (2022). It also holds a 4-star rating for innovation from the Ministry of Education In 2020, three departments (Chemistry. Botany and Zoology) of the college have slso been approved under strengthening component of Star College Scheme of DBT, Gol. In 2022, these departments have also been sanctioned DST-CURIE grant by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. In the session 2021-22, under the guidelines of the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education (MIC), Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) has been constituted in the college and has been rated with 4 stars at the IIC Annual Performance report 2021-22 by the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell. In 2022, college has also registered itself for Vidyanjali-HE scheme. The five-year tenure of "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE-Phase II) has been completed in March 2022. At present, the college has 07 MoUs signed with various institutes.
SSKGDC promotes critical thinking through initiatives like the Damodarshree National Award, a national-level essay competition in commemoration with substantial prizes. In 2019, the college introduced a five-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program, and in 2023, launched the Justice Gopalji Mehrotra Moot Court Competition to encourage legal advocacy.
The institution has a distinctive practice of organizing Damodarshree National Award for Academic Excellence each year in commemoration of the contribution of one of its Founder member Prof. Damodar Das Khanna. The college has been fortunate to mark the presence of eminent personalities of national and international repute in its premises notably Ex-President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Mr. Vikas Swaroop, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachudh to name a few.
