Title : national level essay competition on the occasion of “World Day for International Justice”

Women Cell, S. S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College (A Constituent College of the University of

Allahabad) organized a national level essay competition on the occasion of “World Day for

International Justice”. The theme of the competition was “A Call for Social Justice in the

Digital Economy”. The competition was opened for UG, PG students and research scholars

of the Universities and colleges. The competition commenced from 17 th July 2021 and it was

formally closed on 31 st July 2021. The entries were invited by online mode. The merit list-

Akriti Dwivedi, S. S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College- 1 st Prize

Maneet Nehar, S. S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College- 2 nd Prize

The other deserving entries which could not find mention in the merit list were conferred

participation certificates. In spite of the limitations imposed by the online participation the

event witnessed participation and interest from the student fraternity.

Title : Gender champions

Gender champions in educational institutions is a scheme of Ministry of Women and Child Development. Under its guidelines, Women cell has invited applicants from girls of all streams for presenting their candidature for the same.

Several forms have been submitted in which ten are fulfilling the norms. Out of these ten forms, five girls are shortlisted for interview.

An interview has been scheduled for all these girls on 4th Feb 2021. Selection panel has consisted of Principal Prof. Lalima Singh, Dr. Meenu Agarwal (Chairperson, UGC), Dr. Rashmi Singh (Chairperson, Women Cell) and the members of Women cell. Girls have been interviewed on the basis of vision towards gender sensitivity and leadership qualities.

Netra Dwivedi of B. Ed. First semester has been selected as gender champion of the college and Sadiya Siddiqui of B. A Part 2 has been selected as deputy gender champion. Rest three girls, named Kanak Keswani, Uzma Hasib and Toshifa Arshad have been selected as student representatives of Women Cell.

Title : Laws Pertaining to Sexual Harrassment at Work Place

 

A deliberation on “Laws Pertaining to Sexual Harrassment at Work Place” was organized by Women’s Cell, S.S. Khanna Girls’ Degree College on 14th November, 2019. Dr. Sonal Shankar, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Allahabad was the Chief Guest, and Prof. Alka Agarwal, Former HoD, Department of Economics, and Ex-Chairperson, Women’s Advisory Board, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The guests were accorded a warm welcome by Dr. Rashmi Singh. Dr. Rita Chauhan, gave a meaning insight to the topic to the gathering present.

Dr. Shankar, in a brilliant lecture, threw light on the manner in which patriarchy is rooted in the subconscious of the society that shapes the process of gendering that is largely discriminatory. In a hairsplitting discussion of the laws, criminal and civil, she delineated the intricacies of sexual harassment at work place. Prof. Agarwal talked about the four pillars necessary for women empowerment and the importance of the awareness of the laws relating to sexual harassment especially for the women students who are on the verge of entering the workforce.

Ms. Maria Sadaf, a student of B.A Part I, in a hilarious performance depicted the gender discrimination prevalent in private spaces. Principal Prof. Lalima Singh presented the memento to Prof. Alka Agarwal, and Dr. Neerja Sachdev, Associate Professor, Department of English, presented the memento to Dr. Sonal Shankar. The vote of thanks was extended by Dr. Neerja Sachdev.
